As part of the shared professional studies programme, all trainees undertake frequent action research projects as part of their training. This allows for rigorous reflection on teaching practice, underpinned by cutting edge research.
This session was delivered by Bow School and the focus was on teaching students with English as an additional language (EAL). A specialist from Bow presented a session that enabled trainees to put themselves in the shoes of an EAL learner. It was an eye opening experience!
Trainees spent time discussing and debating the professional viewpoints about immersion of students with EAL into subject specific classrooms.
High quality action research and presentations followed in October. Trainees trialled the use of innovative styles of glossary, visual supports, and a range of other differentiated approaches. For the feedback session, 30 trainees from other training routes joined us. This enabled the professional network to grow and allowed quality feedback for all presentations.

The latest shared professional studies programme was delivered by St Paul’s Way Trust School. This session focused on launching participants’ independent research project. At this point trainees had the chance to choose a topic for themselves.
Some projects included interrogating literacy strategies, others have explored setting and streaming, some looked at theories of grit and resilience. These action research projects allow our trainees to explore more thoroughly areas of their own interest. It also allows collaborative work across subjects and across schools, so that trainees build a lasting supportive network. We look forward to the presentation and keeping you updated!
